Dateline Angola: Nation Hosts Mini Summit of African Heads of State

A mini summit of the Heads of State and Government of the Republics of Angola, South Africa, Congo, The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Rwanda, Tanzania and Uganda, will happen in Luanda on the Tuesday.
A press release issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which Angop had got access to, does not specify the issues to be discussed by the presidents of the referred countries that will meet next Tuesday in Luanda.
Meanwhile speaking in another event in Cuando Cubango — The governor of south eastern Cuando Cubango province , Higino Carneiro, Saturday considered the Cuito Cuanavale battle important not only for Angolans but for Namibians, Zimbabweans and South Africans alike.
Higino Carneiro was speaking at the opening of the conference on the 26th anniversary of the Cuito Cuanavale battle on March 23.
He said the actions carried out in the region are part of the history of the African continent and the world as well.
"It is worth mentioning that memorable battles were fought in this place only compared with those of the second world war," said the governor at the ceremony held in Cuito Cuanavale municipality.
The official underlined that the conference serves for all Angolans to learn of what happened, in fact , in Cuito Cuanavale, as the scene of the combat that set the retreat of the South African troops.
The conference is tackling such topics as combative actions, outcome of the confrontation and repercussions of the defeat of the South Africa troops on Southern Africa.
The Cuito Cuanavale battle took place from December 1987 to March 1988.
